Battle of Abidjan - 2011 (Second Ivorian Civil War).

Essentially there were election in 2010 after a civil war and Alassane Ouattara won, however, the existing president Laurent Gbagbo, who had been in power since 2000 claimed victory after the President of the Constitutional Council, an ally of Laurent Gbagbo, declared the election results invalid and Laurent Gbagbo as the winner.

Both men claimed to be the president andtook the presidential oaths.

Internationally Alassane Ouattara was recognised as the legitimate winner.

Fighting broke out in the country and on 28 March, forces supporting Alassane Ouattara started an all out offensive across the country and on 31 March they approached the capital Abidjan.

The fighting lasted until 11 April when Laurent Gbagbo was arrested at his residence.

Essentially this gives us about 2 turns per day.

Military of Ivory Coast troops moved out of the airport at the very start, but they are in place at the beginning and its up to the player what they do, however, French reinforcements do arrive there on turn 8.

Most of the fighting took place around the palace, the television station, near the main bridges and Cocody. The airport itself wasnt fought over but it is still an objective.

The UN plays a more passive role at the start I think but they were fired at and so carried out some assaults on the Military of Ivory Coast heavy equipment, artillery and armour but towards the end i think it can be assumed they are fully involved. The UN were mainly concerned with patrolling the streets at the beginning.
