1980
Assault by the SADF on Savante, a base held by FAPLA.
The operation was carried out by Battalion 32, which was an elite unit used in insurgency operations. However, their intellignce indicated that an under strength battalion of about 300 men held the base but in reality there were about was a full brigade of at least 1066 men there.
Intelligence provided by a guide led to further confusion and the fighting at the base was heavy. However, when FAPLA moved their rocket unit out to the north in order to put it at an operational range it ran into recconaisance and stopper units that destroyed it which caused chaos in Savante and a general route which was followed through by the SADF units.
This is a hard to model scenario for many reasons although the most significant is the fact that there are five companies in Savante totalling 10 strength points which in a fort will be tripled and the SADF units only have 15 strength points, however, as they are elite I have designated them as special forces which will triple their strength to 45, however, thats still only a 1 to 1 factor unless the preliminary mortar fire performs miracles.
Its also a little tricky to replicate the fact that the reconaisance units missed Savante on the way north and then missed it again on the way south etc.
