The Cenepa War was a brief war between Ecuador and Peru between 26 January and 28 February 1995.
It was fought of over an area of Puru across the Cenepa valley resulting from a long running dispute over the area.
Historically the war focussed around fighting for control of a number of bases along the border including:
Condor Mirador
Cueva de los Tayos
Base Sur
Tiwintza
Coangos
Banderas
Tnte Ortiz
Sdo Monge
Cahuide
Chiqueiza
Pachacutec
Ciro Alegria
The war began after some confusion over the location of Base Sur which the Ecuadorians had claimed was in their territory. Following the incident there were some meetings over the matter but the Ecuadorians refused to leave the base and area around it.
