Operation Moduler was the first part of the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale which was a longer running campaign that lasted just over 7 months.
Operation Moduler ran between 4 August 1987 and 30 November 1987.
The objective of the Angolan forces was to advance south-east and attack UNITA forces at Mavinga.
However, the SADF defended the UNITA forces and they repulsed the Angolan forces and pushed them back to the Cuito River.
