This game is complete to a base level. In a nut shell this is a massive game. There are a lot of units. They are however generic as I dont know who was there but the Eritreans have about 2 brigades and the Ethiopians have 4 brigades.

The Wikipedia article states that at least two brigades of Eritrea infantry with tank and artillery support occupied Badme and the surrounding areas. I have pretty much put that equivelent in, but that was 12 May 1998. Between then and 22 February 1999 both side heavily armed up. whilst most of it went across the whole front, I imagine that the forces would have been even stronger here.

Further, the articles describe it as being trench warfare with 100,000 dead.

However, I am using some artistic licence here. For example, I dont know why they invaded at Badme? Was the rest of the border contested? Also, I am not going to have the Ethiopians arrive until turn 5 or so. That way they can use the first few turnscarrying out airstrikes.

There are also a few fortified hexes. These mean that units can enter them without having to dig in and get 3 times bonus.

Because there are no maps I have based the layout on the BBC map and several other even vaguer maps and manipulated the terrain slightly based on photso to present a channeling geographythat follows the general orientation of the road. ie I have put mountains in which vehicles wont be able to enter. Infantry will, and so the Ethiopian will be able to cross to the East if they choose but I think Badme was where the battle was because it was the route into Eritiea.

Its not perfected yet, but I think this will be a tough game to play, but pretty good fun.

Observational rules means that the Eritrean player cannot advance to the map edge or anything silly like that. They are defending and so must sit still until engaged.

Will the Ethiopians be able to punch through?
