Invasion of Anjouan - 2008 (2008 Invasion Of Anjouan).

Anjouan is an island in the Union of Comoros which are three small islands near madagascar.

In 2007 Colonel Mohamed Bacar refused to step down after an election and on 25 March 2008 a force lead by the Comoros which was backed by units from the African Union (Sudan, Tanzania and Senegal) invaded.

They had 1500 troops and landed in the north of the island to first take the airport which was blockaded with baggage trolleys that had been put on the runway.

They then split their forces and went Southwest to Mutsamudu and South to Domoni.

The island was recaptured in a day. Colonel Mohamed Bacar fled in a speed boat to Mayotte and sought political asylum.

Wikipedia notes that the Comoros archipelago had experienced more than 20 coup attempts since independence from France in 1975.
