Very general setup for the Mosul initiative. Its based on the early October position and so is already out of date.

Primary Iraqi units are 15th Division, 9th Armoured Division and 2 brigades of the 16th Division.

Also included is a variety of coalition forces, US, UK and French along with US air power.

Popular Mobilization Forces forces appear on turn 4 to the South, west of the river.

It appears that the main advances are to the south and so I have included a ford in the very southern river hex to allow units to cross over else it would be a bit strange not having access. However, I dont know if there is a ford there or where any bridges are. I would guess that thats pretty secret no matter how you think of it anyway. Maybe they have pontoon bridges? Or just have good routes from the south?

The US Jtacs units are nothing other than forward air controllers. Currently the modification for them on airpower is not in play so they cant really do much, but add to the overall image of whats happening.

Just a small aside, but if you look at the Gaurdian link you will see a picture of armoured vehicles of the US army moving towards Mosul. You will note that the gun turrets are automated and there are a lot of areials. In short, I would guess that they are unmanned remote controlled vehicles. I have been wondering why the collalition forces dont use robots. I guess it' secret. I dont want to go on and on about it's significance, but using remote control vehicles in this day and age seems like a no brainer and I would not be surprised if thats what they are doing here, both in Mosul as well as other areas.

17 November 2016 update. The BBC link below gives a resonably clear number of beligerants, including factions i dont think I have included as of yet so I will have to come back and adjust. The figures the flash video gives are:

ISIS: 5,000

Iraq Army: 20,000

Iraqi Counter Terror Special Operations: 15,000

Iraqi Police: 20,000

Popular Mobilisation Units (hash de shabi) Shia militia baked by Iran (includes Yazidis): 20,000

Iraqi Kurdish Peshmerga: 10-20,000

Sunni Tribes: ? (thousands more)

Assyrian Christians: ? (thousands more)

United States Air Force: Air Power

United States: Training and Equiping Iraqi Army (includes thousands of advisers)

United States Special Forces: 100

Turkey: Not involved

Iran: Advisors only

No matter how you look at it thats about 100,000 tropps versus 5,000 troops. Thats odds of 20-1 which would make Soviet Military doctrine agains NATO of 17-1 look like a part time effort. However, the weather is clearly not ideal, at the moment, says the BBC.
