Operation Beit ol-Moqaddas was a successful assault by the Iranians on the Iraqi defences in the Southern region.

It was also known as Operation Jerusalem.

The Iranians began by launching some deception assaults in the North which included airbourne and airmobile assualts behind enemy lines.

The attack began around 24 April and ended on 24 May.

They attacked North from around Susangerd and then South into Khorramshahr.

A second line of defences can be seen to the West which is where the Iraqis were pushed back to and is roughly in line with the border of Iran/Iraq.

The beligerants are a guess really. There are probably too many. In theory there should be 70,000 on each side, but i doubt the Iranians would win like that considering the fortifications, and so the unit lists are representative. The only division that has some specific reference is the 11th Division near Khorramshahr which was described as having 15 brigades under its command, all of which went out of command towards the end.

In one of the videos below there is a picture of a road sign for Khorramshahr, and whilst I can remember, it said something like 67 million inhabitants. I found that surprising really and gives a clear indication of the scale of the war.

Amongst the reasons for the Iraqi loss given by an Iraqi Chief of Staff was the Iraqis failure to control the West bank of the Karun River, no reinfocement plans, armoured units were deployed in foward positions with infantry, the Iraqis assumed the Iranians would only attack in daytime, and several other reasons including the unchecked withdrawal of tactical units.

I will come back to this if I can fine unit the unit details or edit the map etc. i havent played this yet. I think this would be a really big one.

Note: In this game you have to look for the river which is hidden beneath fortification markers. its not very clear.
