Following on from Operation Forough Javidan, the Iranians counter attack against the invasion of Mujahadeen-e-Khalq forces with Operation Mersad.
The Mujahadeen-e-Khalq forces have over extended themselves into Iranian territory and are out of range for Iraqi air support. The Iranians then insert paratropper units to cut of their retreat and attack the lines of units along the Kermanshah highway with air and helicopter strikes and also encircle them with Iranian army forces and Revolutionary Guard units from Khuzestan to the south.
