1966
Mostly complete Operation Paul Revere I.
Starts off on 24 May when a CIDG patrol encountered two battalions of PAVN. the patrolis reinforced with two companies, as seen in the set up.
The game then goes on to 1 August. So at about 1 turn per day thats 69 turns. It wont be possible to plan ahead more than a few days within the confines of historical accuracy and so i'll simply balance the numbers up accordingly with rough arrival times but not nessessarily places.
The North Vietnamese use the Cambodian border to their advantage, forming defensive lines along it that the US cant outflank.
The mission itself it described as aborder screening and area control mission. Interestingly enough the Vietnam Almanac and the OOB have exactly the same descriptin. Its detailed in the OOB as over 500 people died, 546 known enemy casulties. US 10 wounded.
Its not really possible to map the mid to late game engagements accuratly. For example the 24 June Plei Lung Pang engagement which seems a bit confused. Also, some units were relieved, replaced or reinfrced. As such, the units used and the rates recieved will reflect the situation to a small degree. Its certainly a reasonable start that could be finely tuned at some other time.
I think the difficulty here is the nature of the conflict which was really more hide and seek with the US looking for the PAVN, which of course you wont be able to do. However, I did think that it might help if you write down the orders for both sides, especially if you play against another person so that the sweeps are methodical and the position of the PAVN both not known, and equally plotted in advance, and as such any engagement would be more realistic of the chance encounters that did happen.
Its worth noting that there were 4 Operation Paul Revere's, II, III and IV.
Also, I have given the PAVN some general company reinforcements to sort of match the incremental increase in US forces, but I havnt played anythign through yet so dont know howbalancedit is.
There are no objectives in this game and I didnt include any leaders.
