A surprise assault on the Palmyra area. ISIS attack from three directions, north, east and west.
It was initially thought that the assault was to cut off the Syrian forces in Palmyra but according to the BBC report they have now entered the city/town after 3 days of fighting.
They are reported to have been using suicide car bombs as well as armoured fighting vehicles. As such, each ISIS element has an insurgent unit that can carry out that kind of attack. and there are two ISIS mechanised infantry companies.
As of 12 December 2016, a few days after building this scenario it appears that ISIS have recaptured Pamyra. Reports state that they had rockets, artillery and even over 30 main battle tanks, ie, armour,so I have added all of that.
