2017
Shia minority take up arms after a series of incidents against their community by the Saudi Arabian authorities.
The unrest officially began after a child and a Pakistani man were shot and killed on 12 May 2017.
It also followed the death sentence being passed on Nimr al-Nimr for seeking 'foreign meddling' in Saudi Arabia, 'disobeying' its rulers and taking up arms against the security forces. However, it was claimed that her death sentence was an effort on the behalf of the Saudi arabian athorities to crush all dissent. When her brother talked about her death sentence on the internet he was arrested the following day. Nimr al-Nimr was executed along on 2 January 2016.
This scenario reflects 2017 in which there are about 14 known incidents of note, mainly Saudi policemen and soldiers being killed.
There was a car bomb in Al-Qatif in June 2017 and in July 2017 five people are killed in police raids.
Much of the activity takes place in Al-Awamiyah and so it is an objective, but police and military units can be tagetted anywhere. Al-Qatif is also a suitable secondary target.
This scenario is more for modelling and reflecting the situation. However, it reflects the attacks on Saudi police and their efforts to crack down on the unrest.
In April 2019 the Saudis execut some Shite protestor.
