This scenario represents the first 30 days of the Rwandan Civil War.
The civil war starts when about 2500 Rwandan troops in the Ugandan Army revolt and move into Rwanda with about 800 civilians, calling themselves the Rwandan Patriotic Front on 1 October 1990. They take with them several rocket launchers.
They are led by Fred Rwigyema, as detailed by the command unit, but he is shot on 4 October 1990. As such, if you want to play historically you are advised to ignore his unit after turn 4.
It is worth noting that to play it historically you can only really use the Belgian units for about a week or so as they were withdrawn as it was against Belgian law for their troops to take part in civil wars.
Similarly with the Ziare units. After a week at the front they should leave as they carried out atrosities against the Rwandan people.
Each turn is about a day. It is envisaged that the game should take 30 days bby which time the Rwandan Patriotic Front were beaten back over the Ugandan border. The civil war was declared over by 30 October 1990.
The Rwandan fake an attack by the Rwandan Patriotic Front against Kigali which fools the French who send troops in to support the Rwandan Government, however, they only take up positions around Kigali and dont go to the front.
The game features refugees. They are activated when Rwandan Patriotic Front units move into objective village hexes. There are refugee camps at Goma, Bukavu, Nyarushishi, Kibeho and Benaco where the Rwandan Armed Forces player can take them, if they survive the onslaught of the Rwandan Patriotic Front.
