Been meaning to get to grips with Somalia fora while now. This scenario is meant to be an overview of the initial growth of the United Somali Congress  and as it says on the tin, the Fall Of The Barre Regime. I imagine that there will be smaller battles and scenarios to build off of all ofthis, but I hope to simply lay the foundations of the start of the civil war at each of its stages first.

I cant really find much on the Somalian Civil War and so I think its going to be challenging but im hoping that I can make sense of old newspaper articles etc,in other words do a bit of research.

Really, there are no books that i can find that detail the military strategy with time lines.

The map is about 600 miles by 700 miles, thats Somalia, border to boarder, not the whole map. As such I think I will be using units with reduced movement to represent the more strategic scope of the game.

Unfortunatly my newspaper source is virtually barren on reports on the Somalian Civil War. However, I have found one reference and will detail them below:

18 January 1990 - The number killed in Somalia's civil war in the past 19 months is estimated at between 50,000 and 60,000 according to Africa Watch, a US-based human rights organization.

4 December 1990 - Mogadishu - United Somali Congress Rebel were only 30 miles northeast of the capital Mogadishu, said a correspondent who spent four days in the rebel zone. Advance units were only two hours away by road.

26 December 1990 - Mogadishu - With rebels closing in on the capital, Somalia has legalised opposition parties and ended 17 years of one party rule. Abdikassim Sald Hassan, the interior minister, said a new law would allow parties to contest an election early in 1991. Dissidents dismissed the move as a trick.
